Encouraging Young Men and Women to Consider a Career in the Trades

The Building Connections is an annual networking gathering designed to support and promote Skilled Trades Exploring programs of the Northern New Jersey Council, Boy Scouts of America.   With the formation of the council’s Workforce Development Task Force comprised of businesses, associations and unions within the trades, the focus is organize Explorer Posts specializing in the trades for young adults.

Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the businesses and organizations in their communities. Businesses and community organizations initiate a career specific Exploring program by matching their employees and company resources to the interests of youth in the community. The result is a program of interactive hands on activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow confidence, and develop leadership skills. Explorer Clubs serve 6th - 8th graders and Explorer Posts serve 14 - 20 year old.

Participation Levels                                             

Event Sponsor ($10,000) includes a three-minute presentation during the reception.  Your support is recognized with signage at the event and company logo on the cover of the printed program and inside cover ad space, as well as 20 tickets to the event.

Explorer Sponsor ($7,500) includes signage at event and ad on back page of the printed program, as well as 15 tickets to the event.

Trades Sponsor ($5,000) includes full page ad in printed program and 10 tickets to the event.

Construction Sponsor ($3,000) includes half page ad in printed program and 8 tickets to the event.

Scout Sponsor ($1,500) includes quarter page ad in printed program and 4 tickets to the event.

Individual Ticket ($350) includes name in printed program and one ticket to the event.


Recognizing Leaders Within the Industry

Many individuals, organizations and businesses within the trades provide tremendous support to their community and, often, to Scouting programs.  In an effort to recognize their efforts, the Workforce Development Task Force will select candidates to recognize with one of more of the following awards annually at the Building Connections event: 

  • Good Scout Award (business or association that has demonstrated outstanding support to Scouting and the community)

  • North Star Award (individual not registered in Scouting who has gone above and beyond to support local Scouting – on par with the Silver Beaver Award)

  • George Meany Award (national honor presented by the Boy Scouts of America and the AFL/CIO to a union member who has provided outstanding service to youth through the programs of the Boy Scouts of America).

Land Improvement Contractors of America

The Northern New Jersey Council is proud to recognize the Land Improvement Contractors of America (LICA) with the Good Scout Award for their incredible efforts to rally over 25 excavating and site work companies for camp improvements at Camp Lewis in Rockaway, New Jersey. Their hard work provide widened and repaired roads, replenishing the lake beach, clearing camp sites amongst many more projects.
